When Alex Stuart started writing country songs in 1996, he had no idea what he was getting into. His minimal knowledge about music composition soon became obvious and he sought help in Nashville. He was lucky to find Jay’s Place, on Music Row, where most of the songs posted here were recorded. In 1999, nine of their songs were signed to different Nashville publishers. That experience encouraged Alex to start publishing his own songs - which turned out to be harder than it looked. Finally, in 2009, his efforts began to bear fruit.
Enter Country Ham On Wry, an umbrella organization that covers songwriting, publishing and free lyric reviews. As a writer, Alex learned that the typical publishing contracts left a lot to be desired and he wanted to try something different. Something that was more writer-friendly. He instituted a single song publishing contract that allows the writer, upon giving three weeks notice, to cancel the agreement at any time. No more two, three or four year contract terms! If a writer finds a better offer, or if he/she decides to self-publish, we do not want to stand in the way.
